Birth and Childhood

Ronald “Ron” Dion DeSantis was born on September 14, 1978, in Jacksonville, Florida, United States, to parents Karen Rogers and Ronald DeSantis. He spent his formative years in the Florida town of Dunedin. He participated in both the baseball and softball ‘Little League’ programs at Dunedin High School in 1991.

In 1997, he finished high school. After attending Yale University for his BA in history, he graduated in 2001. When he was a student at Yale, he joined the fraternity Delta Kappa Epsilon. Ron DeSantis was employed in the history department of Darlington School’s ‘Upper School’ prior to obtaining his Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School in 2005.

Early Career

Ron DeSantis, who held the position of a commissioned officer in the Reserve Naval, was assigned to the U.S. Naval Reserve Center in Dallas, Texas, in 2004. He was assigned to the ‘Judge Advocate General’s Corps’ (JAG). Following his graduation from the U.S. Naval Justice School in 2005, he was designated as a ‘JAG’ prosecutor in the Trial Service Office Command South East located at Naval Station Mayport, Florida.

In 2006, he attained the rank of lieutenant (LT) and assumed the role of commander at the Guantanamo Bay Joint Detention Facility, specifically serving as the leader of the ‘Joint Task Force-Guantanamo’ (JTF-GTMO). In 2007, the Naval Special Warfare Command Group appointed him as the legal advisor for ‘SEAL Team One,’ and thereafter, he was sent to Iraq for deployment.

In 2008, Ron was given another term in the position of ‘US Naval Region Southeast Legal Service.’ The ‘United States Department of Justice’ placed him in the custody of the ‘U.S. Attorney’s Office’ for the Middle District of Florida.

The ‘Higher Education Reform and Opportunity Act,’ which DeSantis signed into law in 2016, gave individual states the authority to devise their own methods of grading students’ work. As a result of the “Non-Discrimination of Israel in Labeling Act,” Israeli businesses that manufactured or produced goods were given the opportunity to create their own brand names. DeSantis cast a favorable vote in favor of moving the so-called ‘U.S. Embassy’ from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

In August of 2017, DeSantis added a clause to the spending package for fiscal 2018 that would stop all of the aid granted to the “Special Counsel” investigation being conducted by Robert Mueller regarding Russia’s link with Trump’s presidential election campaign in 2016. The investigation was centered on Trump’s campaign for the 2016 election of the United States presidency.

In January 2018, Ron DeSantis launched his campaign for the office of governor of Florida, and he received backing from President Donald Trump. During the general election for the “Republican” primary in August, he was victorious over the “Democratic” candidate Andrew Gillum. Due to the upcoming race for governor, he resigned from his post in the “House” the month after it was announced that he was running for governor. Jeanette Nez, a successful businesswoman and politician, was selected to serve as his running mate for the campaign.

His campaign received a lot of backlash for its lackluster planning, which was condemned harshly. DeSantis even had to reschedule an interview with the “Tampa Bay Times” so that he could better prepare his position for a more in-depth policy conversation.

The inauguration of DeSantis as the 46th governor of Florida took place on January 8, 2019, and Nez was sworn in as his lieutenant governor at that time.
