Macklemore Producer – Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, better known by his stage as Macklemore is a musician from the United States who is more known for his independent music career and his work with producer Ryan Lewis. Due to the success of his songs Thrift Shop and Can’t Hold Us, he became famous all over the world with his band, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. Macklemore has published a considerable number of albums and has been honored with a number of Grammy Awards. Additionally, he has recorded music under his own name, such as the single Glorious collaboration with Skylar Grey and his second solo album, Gemini.

Benjamin Haggerty’s Formative Years

The 19th of June, 1983 found Ben Haggerty being born in Seattle, Washington. He was the first of two sons that Bill Haggerty and Julie Schott had. Together with his brother Tim, he was brought up in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Seattle by his parents. He was brought up in a Catholic household and had Irish background. It was through Digital Underground that Haggerty was introduced to hip-hop for the first time. He was just six years old. His first attempt at penning lyrics came when he was 15 years old.

Haggerty attended both Nathan Hale High School and Garfield High School during his high school years. During his time at Hale, he came up with the stage moniker “Professor Macklemore” for a creative venture that involved a superhero that he had previously fabricated. The hip-hop group known as “Elevated Elements” was formed by him and a group of other classmates while he was attending Garfield Middle School. An album titled Progress was released by the group in the year 2000.

After completing his undergraduate studies at the College of Santa Fe, Haggerty remained there for a full year. After that, Haggerty went on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from Evergreen State College in Olympia, which he had attended before.

Benjamin Haggerty’s Professional Career

From 2000–2008

A mixtape titled Open Your Eyes was prepared by Haggerty in the year 2000 under the identity of Professor Macklemore. The mixtape was disseminated by Haggerty himself and was released on October 21.

The Language of My World was Haggerty’s first full-length album, and Haggerty stopped using the moniker “Professor” to refer to his work. On the same day that the album was released, January 1, 2005, the lead single for the album, titled Love Song, was announced. Budo, who went on to compose other songs for Macklemore, produced Love Song, which was sung by Evan Roman.

In 2006, Haggerty had his first encounter with Ryan Lewis, who would later become his fellow employee. Before releasing two albums under the name Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Lewis worked as a photographer for Macklemore’s marketing teams for a few years. Not until 2009 did the two musicians begin working together, despite the fact that they became close friends.

Macklemore performed as a solo artist during this time, making an appearance on the song Good by The Physics in 2009 and performing at three different Bumbershoot festivals in Seattle which took place between the years 2006 and 2011.

The second mixtape recorded by Macklemore, titled The Unplanned Mixtape, was made accessible to the public on September 7, 2009. In the years that followed, it would eventually reach the seventh spot on the Hip Hop list created by iTunes. The mixtape was released concurrently with the tracks The Townand And We Danced, both of which featured the vocal talents of Ziggy Stardust. Ascent to Fame and Major Accomplishments: 2009–2017

The year 2009 marked the beginning of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis’s collaboration, which came to be known as the duo Macklemore & Ryan Lewis. They were the ones that made the Vs. Bonnaroo, Outside Lands, Sasquatch, and Bumbershoot were just a few of the American music festivals that the rapper performed at during the same year.

In the United States, their album The Heist, which was released in October 2012, debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart for the week that ended on October 27. Additionally, they sold more than 78,000 copies of the record. Same Love was released on July 18, 2012, following the release of White Walls.

In January of 2013, Music Choice included Macklemore as part of their brand-new Primed series, which was composed of up-and-coming performers. The song Gold Rush was released by Clinton Sparks in May of 2013, and it featured contributions by Haggerty, 2 Chainz, and D.A. simultaneously.

The pair released White Privilege II, the second song from their album This Unruly Mess I’ve Made, on January 22, 2016, making it available to users. In addition, Macklemore released the singles Drug Dealer and Wednesday Morning on his own in the last year, 2016.

2017 – Present

On June 15, 2017, the song Glorious, which features American singer Skylar Grey, was released as the lead single from Macklemore’s second solo studio album which was titled Gemini.

Macklemore’s second single from his next album, titled Marmalade, was released on July 26, 2017, and featured the participation of the American rapper Lil Yachty.

A song, Good Old Days was released on October 9, 2017, and it was a collaboration between Kesha and another artist.

Macklemore launched his new single Gemini on September 22nd, and Budo, a frequent collaborator, was the one responsible for producing the tune. The song Same Love was performed by Macklemore on October 1 in Sydney, Australia, prior to the National Rugby League Grand Final. This performance took place in the midst of a national survey on marriages between people of the same gender. It was argued by some that this was controversial. Macklemore stated that on account of the circumstances, it was one of his best performances, and he expressed his gratitude to the Sydney crowd for their support during the entire performance.

The Adventures of Kesha and Macklemore is the name of the next tour that Macklemore and Kesha will have together as co-headliners. The tour was scheduled to begin on December 11, 2017. Additionally, this was Macklemore’s sixth headline tour in support of their respective albums, Gemini for Macklemore and Gemini for Kesha. Kesha’s third solo album, Rainbow, was released in 2017. The new song Next Year, which was performed by American vocalist Windsor and was released by Macklemore on October 29, 2021, was available for purchase. The song also featured a collaboration between Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, which was the first time the two had worked together in three years.

On July 22, 2022, Macklemore released the song Chant as a result of his collaboration with the Australian band “Tones and I.” The song Maniac was published by Macklemore on August 19, 2022, and it was a collaboration with Windsor, an American musician.

The third single, Faithful, featuring NLE Choppa, was released on October 28, 2022.

It was on January 20, 2023, that the fourth single, titled Heroes, which featured D.J. Premier, became available for purchase.

It was on March 3, 2023, that Macklemore released his third studio album as a solo artist. The album was titled Ben.

Awards and Recognition

For his unwavering commitment to MusiCares and the fight against addiction, Macklemore was honored with the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award on May 16, 2019, which was handed to him by the organization.

Macklemore has a number of favorite teams, including the Seattle Seahawks. In addition to producing a promotional film for the band 12th Man, he also gave a performance during the 2014 National Football Conference Championship Game. It is clear that he is still a fan of the Seattle SuperSonics, despite their relocation.

In August of 2008, Macklemore entered a drug rehabilitation facility for alcohol and drug addiction. In 2011, he experienced a brief relapse, which he discusses in his song Starting Over. Prior to that, he celebrated three years of sobriety.

Macklemore experienced a relapse and came dangerously close to passing away from an overdose during the summer of 2020. This was partially due to the social isolation that he experienced as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, he was able to recuperate from the incident after receiving treatment and being brought to the hospital.

Activism

At the festival that took place in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, on September 29, 2018, Macklemore was the headlining artist.

In order to give back to groups that are working to combat opioid addiction, he instituted Recovery Fest, which was a concert that was held without the use of narcotics or alcohol.

Macklemore voiced his support for same-sex marriage and LGBT rights in the song Same Love, which was released in 2012. In addition to this, he condemned homophobia in mainstream hip-hop, other aspects of society, and the media.
